Ankle & Achilles Pain

Ankle Sprain
  • Ankle sprains are one of the most common sports injuries.

  • A sudden jolt or twist can overstretch and tear the supporting ligaments of the joint, causing pain and swelling.

  • Occur when the ankle is rolled, usually during high inpact activity with running, jumping or changing direction (such as basketball).

  • Treatment for a sprained ankle includes rest, elevation and icing.

  • If ankle sprains become frequent alternative treatments like bracing and orthotics may be required.

Achilles Tendonitis
  • A chronic (long-term) condition associated with the progressive degeneration of the Achilles tendon.

  • Sometimes the Achilles tendon does not function properly because of multiple, minor microscopic tears of the tendon, which cannot heal and repair itself correctly.

  • The Achilles tendon receives more tension than it can cope with and microscopic tears develop.

  • Eventually, the tendon thickens, weakens, and becomes painful due to chronic localised inflammation.

  • Shockwave therapy is an effective treatment for the management of chronic achilles tendonitis
