Ankle & Achilles Pain
Ankle Sprain
-
Ankle sprains are one of the most common sports injuries.
-
A sudden jolt or twist can overstretch and tear the supporting ligaments of the joint, causing pain and swelling.
-
Occur when the ankle is rolled, usually during high inpact activity with running, jumping or changing direction (such as basketball).
-
Treatment for a sprained ankle includes rest, elevation and icing.
-
If ankle sprains become frequent alternative treatments like bracing and orthotics may be required.
Achilles Tendonitis
-
A chronic (long-term) condition associated with the progressive degeneration of the Achilles tendon.
-
Sometimes the Achilles tendon does not function properly because of multiple, minor microscopic tears of the tendon, which cannot heal and repair itself correctly.
-
The Achilles tendon receives more tension than it can cope with and microscopic tears develop.
-
Eventually, the tendon thickens, weakens, and becomes painful due to chronic localised inflammation.
-
Shockwave therapy is an effective treatment for the management of chronic achilles tendonitis
